A little about myself...
Knife making has been a hobby of mine from the very first time a friend
showed me how he went about making knives. Ever since Ive been hooked.
This all happened about nine years ago , when, after working 20 years
for a road construction company I decided I'd just about had enough
of working for bosses telling me when to start work/ have lunch/ go
home...No More...
So
I decided to go knifemaking on a full time basis, (scarey) even though
times can be tough, I enjoy meeting and forging (no pun intended) new
friendships through the people I meet whilst making knives, and I am
still fascinated and enthusiastic as to what can be achieved when two
people (customer/maker) get together and come up with something so functional
and well made, that it will last for many many years. I believe a knife
whatever it is used for should be an extension of your hand.
The knives shown here are just a sample of what can be created. Please contact me if you have a
specific requirement, or just an idea of what you want. I prefer to work on Customer /Client/Friends orders one at a time
rather than just make a batch of knives and hope they sell. I enjoy the interaction between individuals and they know that
once I start on their knife either their knife design or mine, I'm committed till that project is complete. Custom designs
and orders are my first priority. Placing your design directly to me for a knife is certainly the best and quickest way
to get your own knife made and delivered.
I enjoy mostly handforging Carbon steels, and working with 5160, 52100 finished with selective heat-treating - because for
a strong and dependable knife steel, the above offer outstanding quality and strength.
I work from a large spacious workshop which also has a fully equipped blacksmith shop where with
the bellows puffing and with the sound of the anvils song, I turn out my products and heat treat my carbon and spring blades,
where as all stainless steel blades go and get heat treated at Heat Treatment Services where Leon & René and
their crew treat all my blades and do a tremendous job. Most of my blades are done by the stock removal method, or just
done fully by files and sandpaper, not machines.
I stand by the knives I craft,
in that they have my personal guarantee that if for any reason my customer/ client/friend only has to contact me and we
will discuss any problems that may have arisen.
The mission statement for Gardner Knives is to build/craft a quality product that the user/owner will be proud to use and
show friends and one that will last forever to be cherished and not let you down.
So thanks for visiting. Please call again. Please feel free to email or phone with your needs or plans for a Gardner made
knife or even if you only want to talk knives.
For those who want special engraving, I send my knives to Steve Dawson who in my opinion is an engraver of superior skill
and talent, who can engrave bolsters or blades alike with outstanding design and detail.
Stay well and Call again....
